Surrealism was one of the most important artistic movements of the second decade of the twentieth century. This movement, which covered the field of visual arts and literature, began in 1924 with the publication of the Surrealist Manifesto written by the poet André Breton. In it, Breton said the principles of the new aesthetic, which he defined as "pure psychic automatism, by which the artist externalized the product of the subconscious, through oral, written or otherwise.
