Greenpeace was founded in 1971 by a group of Americans who wanted to prevent his government used the island of Amchitka, Alaska, to conduct nuclear tests. It is an independent international organization that works worldwide with the goals of protecting endangered species, prevent environmental damage, to mobilize public opinion and creating environmental awareness. His strategy of action is based on non-violent, direct confrontation with major corporations and companies that pollute the environment, and government authorities who do nothing to stop it. They also organize awareness campaigns on specific topics. Today, Greenpeace has a small permanent staff plant and a large number of volunteers. It is financed with contributions from partners or members, surpassing the 4.5 million people in 158 countries.
Greenpeace militants act quickly and directly. For example: stand, shipped in small inflatable boats between the whalers and their prey, or clogged pipes throwing toxic waste into the sea. They have a fleet of six ships that travel the world to defend and promote the objectives of the entity.
