Amnesty International is an NGO whose aim is to secure the release of people imprisoned because of their religious, political, their origins, or ethnicity. Founded in 1961 by English lawyer Peter Berenson, their goals were gradually expanded and extended to the whole struggle for the defense and promotion of human rights. In this regard, Amnesty, whose headquarters are in London, takes as its point of reference the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in December 1948. The methodology of action is based on the monitoring of cases of violations of human rights through negotiations with the governments concerned and in some cases, volunteers resort to international organizations. In addition, develops media campaigns and publishes an annual report on government policy on human rights in each country in the world. The organization is funded by private donations, practice a strict ideological neutrality. That is why Amnesty report with the same firmness of human rights violations that occur both in democratic republics and in countries under authoritarian regimes.
Amnesty volunteers are cases of violations of human rights through negotiations with the governments concerned and, in some cases, resort to international organizations.
