The Aztec people created the greatest civilization of cultural development, military power and political influence in southern North America and Central America before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors. The Aztecs came from a lake region called Aztlan, which had been tributary to the Aztlaneca. To escape the domination began a migration that lasted two centuries, during which fought against the Toltecs and Colhué and settled temporarily in various locations. Finally, they settled in the place where it is today Mexico City. They built and founded in 1325, the great city of Tenochtitlan, which attracted the admiration of the Europeans when they came to America.
The society was divided into classes that meet different functions: a nobility that was chosen according to their ability, the people, and the servants or slaves. The latter were prisoners of war, which is sometimes sacrificed to the gods. At the top of the social pyramid was the king, whose position was hereditary.
They were farmers working the land and cultivated corn, pumpkins, melons, tomatoes, cacao and vanilla were the main crops, in addition to cotton which made their costumes. Produced snuff, and began the habit of smoking.
