An international treaty is a written agreement between two or more States, or between a nation and an international organization, under which signatories agree to comply with certain obligations. Where the parties that signed the treaty are only two, this is called bilateral, and when they are several, the agreement is called multilateral. Treaties are one of the most important sources of public international law and contribute to the establishment of a global law. Governing the most diverse subjects, from the location of the boundary line between two nations to the contributions of governments to the various international agencies, to name just two examples. Treaties are negotiated between representatives of the countries concerned in accordance with the instructions they receive from their rulers. Usually an agreement is signed which is then analyzed by the legislatures of each country, and that such agreements must comply with the requirements established by the Constitutions of the countries involved. After parliamentary approval, the treaty enters into force.
