Science fiction or science fiction, is a literary genre that combines the narrative with the anticipation of imaginary events, inspired primarily on scientific findings. One of the main exponents of this form of story, Isaac Asimov, went on to say that we live in a world of science fiction. When the Frenchman Jules Verne, one of the pioneers of this literary form, in 1865 wrote his famous novel From the Earth to the Moon, never have guessed that 104 years later, in July 1969, the man would live his dream with arrival of Apollo XI mission to Earth's satellite. Science fiction captured the imagination of millions of readers and served as inspiration for some of the most successful films and programs in the history of cinema and television, as different versions of Frankenstein, King Kong, 2001, A Space Odyssey , The Star Wars.
In addition to Jules Verne, Mary Shelley and Isaac Asmov, may be mentioned Herbert George Wells, Arthur Clarke, Robert strung, George Ballard, Ray Bradbury, Frank Herbert, Poul Anderson, Samuel Delany and Ursula K. Le Guin.
The difference between science fiction and stories for similar genres such as horror novel, is that the events alluded to by authors within the first group are possible from the point of view of science. So it can be considered a precursor of science fiction Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein (1818), and not to Bram Stoker who wrote Dracula (1897).
