Charles Dickens was one of the most prominent novelists of the realist movement that flourished in England and France during the nineteenth century. Born in Portsmouth, England in 1812. Son of an employee of the Treasury of the Navy that careless spending the money that was receiving, the future writer met during their childhood misery. He received an education neglected, but the offset avidly reading everything he could lay his hands. When he turned 10, his father was sent to debtors' prison and the child had to work in a factory polish. An unexpected legacy enabled the Dickens family out of their desperate situation, and the young Charles began working in various newspapers. After publishing her first novel, The Pickwick papers, became famous. He traveled through Europe and the United States and became one of the most popular authors of his country, where his works were expected by the public. He died in 1870 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
