Pericles was an Athenian politician. It is considered one of the greatest rulers of antiquity. Born between 500 and 495 B.C. Son of an admiral, Xanthippe, was educated by the most important teachers of Athens, among which were the philosophers Anaxagoras and Zeno. Was noted for its clear and simple speech, and since young was very popular, getting the highest offices in Athens from the year 467 BC In his political life improved democratic institutions established the occupation of public office for raffles in which all citizens participated, expanded and equipped the Athenian fleet, encouraged the arts and sciences; spread to the theater they could also attend poorest citizens, and called the most recognized artists in the reconstruction of buildings and temples destroyed in the war with the Persians. So great was his influence that the V century is called the Age of Pericles. He died in 429 B.C.
